"The Ship for World Youth was truly a life changing experience for me. I have developed a greater love for the Japanese people and culture, gained awareness of environmental issues and its impact on our Pacific Island neighbours, learnt about the UN, explored social justice issues, gained a greater understanding of the Muslim faith and explored what it is to be an Australian. Not only did I learn a lot about people from all over the world, but I learnt a lot about myself. I learnt to have an open mind, to dispense with prejudice, to embrace difference as an asset, to have my thoughts challenged and to challenge the thoughts of others. Most importantly, I have developed a network of friends both amongst my delegation and from around the world; and for that I will always be truly grateful for my SWY experience."
