SWY19
AHOY - Achieving the Hopes Of Youth I have left the Ship for World Youth program with a more open mind, a broader perspective, a deeper understanding of issues effecting our world today, and a better understanding of my place in a global community. More than anything, SWY19 has provided me with irreplaceable memories and lifelong friendships. I am more inspired than ever to experience what the world has to offer, and best of all, I know that I have places to stay in 13 countries around the world! Mat Bradley An
experience such as SWY19 comes very rarely, but leaves a lasting
impression both personally and professionally. The opportunity to
represent ones country required a personal understanding and questioning
of the issues, society and identity that you are part of. Living in such a
diverse community of culture, ideas and people develops an incredible
capacity to acknowledge, accept and embrace the differences that make up
our global community. "The Ship for World Youth was truly a life
changing experience for me. I have developed a greater love for the
Japanese people and culture, gained awareness of environmental issues and
its impact on our Pacific Island neighbours, learnt about the UN, explored
social justice issues, gained a greater understanding of the Muslim faith
and explored what it is to be an Australian. Not only did I learn a lot
about people from all over the world, but I learnt a lot about myself. I
learnt to have an open mind, to dispense with prejudice, to embrace
difference as an asset, to have my thoughts challenged and to challenge
the thoughts of others. Most importantly, I have developed a network of
friends both amongst my delegation and from around the world; and for that
I will always be truly grateful for my SWY experience." |
